About the Baptist Ministers Alliance

an ecumenical fellowship of men working together for a stronger, safer, and more compassionate Rochester.

The Baptist Ministers Alliance of Greater Rochester brings pastors, ministers, and clergy together in Christian fellowship, shared service, and concern for our community. Rooted in the Baptist tradition and welcoming clergy from other Christian denominations, we unite our faith, experience, and resources to strengthen churches and serve the people of Greater Rochester.

Our History

Our roots reach back to the mid-1960s, when ministers in Rochester came together around a shared conviction: our churches and our community are stronger when we work together.

That conviction continues to guide the Alliance today. Across generations of pastoral leadership, BMA has provided a place for ministers to build relationships, encourage one another, address community concerns, and turn shared faith into collective action.

We honor that history by carrying its purpose forward and responding to the needs of the community we serve.

Our Purpose

The Alliance exists to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ, strengthen our individual churches and congregations, and promote faith-based leadership for the betterment of Greater Rochester.

Our Constitution calls us to share our spiritual, intellectual, and material resources in service to Christ and our community. Through fellowship, ministry development, outreach, and collaboration, we seek to equip ministers for faithful service and stand together on matters affecting individuals, families, and neighborhoods.

Our work is grounded in the biblical call to unity:

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

Psalm 133:1, KJV

Faith in Action

We believe the work of ministry reaches beyond the walls of the church. Our commitment takes shape through:

  • Fellowship and mutual support: Building relationships that encourage ministers and strengthen their service to their congregations.
  • Ministry development: Sharing knowledge and resources that help clergy grow in leadership, pastoral care, and counseling.
  • Community advocacy: Bringing a collective Christian voice to concerns affecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of our neighbors.
  • Partnership and outreach: Working with churches, schools, community organizations, and public safety partners to address shared needs.
  • Service to children and families: Supporting opportunities for connection and positive engagement through efforts such as Save Our Children/Bridging the Gap.

United in Service

Our Baptist heritage provides a foundation for fellowship across denominational lines. We recognize the strength of ministers working together while respecting the identity and ministry of each congregation.

We welcome opportunities to connect with clergy and community partners who share our commitment to serving Rochester. Together, we can strengthen relationships, support our neighbors, and help build a community where children and families can thrive.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Galatians 6:9, KJV
